Mr Charles Henry Hood, who is to marry Miss Dorothy Windham Cutler, belongs to the Hoods of Nettleham Hall, Lincolnshire, a property now owned by his second cousin, Lieutenant Edward Thesiger Hood, RHA. His grandfather, John Hood, of Nettleham, was also Lord of the Manor of Firsty, in Lincolnshire, and inherited through his mother the Yorkshire manor of Gafforth. The Hoods themselves were settlers in Yorkshire during the seventeenth century. The first to abide in the county was the John Hood who accompanied General Monck from Scotland on his way to restore Charles II to the throne. He separated from the general at York, being left with one regiment under the command of Colonel Fairfax.

To reside in England

The wedding took place recently in Vancouver, BC, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr and Mrs George Bell, 695 Twelfth Avenue, when their eldest daughter Marguerita Malwood became the bride of Mr Frederick Charles Pauline, son of Mr FA Pauline, Agent-General for British Columbia in London, and Mrs Pauline. Rev AF Roberts officiated.  After a motor tour of Vancouver Island Mr and Mrs Pauline will leave for London, England, where they will reside.

Mr and Mrs Charles F Gardiner last evening celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding.  They were married, as the news of twenty-five years ago, in another column, narrates, on the evening of Sept 10, 1890, in Christ Church Cathedral.  The bride was Miss Amy Pauline, who still resides here.  Her bridesmaids were Miss AF Gardiner, sister of the groom, and Misses Florence, Violet, Sarah, Marion and Nellie Pauline, her sisters.  CP Lowe was the best man and Harold Pauline was page.  The ceremony was performed by Rev Henry Kingham, a brother of Joshua Kingham and Mrs EG Miller.

From London comes the news of the formal announcement there of the engagement of Miss Sarah Talbot Kavanagh, daughter of Mr and Mrs William K Kavanagh of St Louis, to Walter Valentine Churchill Longman, son of the late HB Churchill Longman of London, England. Mrs Kavanaugh and her daughter went abroad last spring it was while they were visiting Sir Robert and Lady Hadfield and Lady Hadfield’s sister, Miss Lily Wickersham of Pittsburg, in London, that Miss Kavanaugh and Mr Churchill Longman met.  Mrs Kavanaugh and her daughter, who have been in Berlin since August, are now in London, where Mr Kavanaugh and his son J Boggs Kavanaugh have joined them for the wedding, which will take place there in April.

Announcement has come from England of the engagement of Miss Valeria Churchill Longman of Ash, Canterbury, daughter of Major WV Churchill Longman and Mrs BC Moody, and Neil Abercrombie of Sandwich Kent, son of Prof and Mrs Patrick Abercrombie.  Miss Churchill Longman is the granddaughter of the late William K Kavanaugh of this city, and is related to Mrs Taylor Bryan, 4346 McPherson avenue; Miss Mary, Miss Sunie and Miss Martha Clark, 5129 Washington boulevard, and Mrs Lee Hagerman of the Lucerne Apartments.  The bride to be came to America several years ago to visit relatives, and stayed with her late grandfather in St Louis.

Well-known Victorians wed

Victoria friends will be interested in the announcement that Mr Benedict Bantly and Mrs Nellie Hickey were married in Burlingame, Calif on July 18.

Now on an extended honeymoon, Mr and Mrs Bantly will spend a brief time in Victoria Friday, arriving on the Seattle boat at noon and leaving again on the afternoon boat for Vancouver, en route to England.

Both wedding principals are well known here, Mrs Bantly being the former Miss Nellie Pauline of Victoria, and Mr Bantly being one of the city’s outstanding music teachers some years ago.

Marriage of Amy Dudley and Frederick Charles Pauline, 1913

On Monday morning at 9:30 an interesting wedding was celebrated when Amy Mona Dudley, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Flint, of 33 Simcoe street, became the bride of Mr Frederick Charles Pauline, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Frederick Arthur Pauline, of Foul Bay road.  Rev JHS Sweet performed the ceremony, which took place in the presence of a number of the relatives and friends of the happy pair, the church being beautifully decorated with Easter lilies, dafodils, ivy, ferns and smilax.  The bride who was given away by her father, wore a chic tailored costume of grey cloth, with white lace hat trimmed with roses, and a shower bouquet of white carnations.  Mr Harold Beasely acted as best man.  During the service the organist played Mendelssohn’s Wedding march and the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin, the happy pair leaving immediately after the ceremony for Vancouver en route for Detroit, Walkerville and other Eastern points.  On their return they will make their residence in this city.

Marriage Daniel Hickey and Nellie Pauline, 1906

Mr Daniel Louis Hickey, an electrician of Seattle, and Miss Nellie Pauline, of Oak Bay, were united in marriage at St Luke’s Church, Cedar Hill, yesterday afternoon.  The marriage was performed by Rev Mr Connell, rector of the church.  After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr and Mrs Pauline, Oak Bay, where many friends assembled to extend well wishes to the young couple. Mr and Mrs Hickey left on the steamer Princess Victoria last night and will spend their honeymoon in California.  They will afterwards take up their residence in Seattle.

Mr Robert H Williams of Kaslo, and Miss Marion Pauline, sevent daughter of Mr Frederick Pauline, of Oak Bay, were married at Christ Church Catherdral yesterday evening in the presence of a large number of their friends and relatives, by Rev Canon Beanlands. The bride was attended by her younger sister, Miss Nellie Pauline, and Miss Rita Gardiner, her nephew Master Fred Pauline acting as page. At the conclusion of the ceremony the young couple proceeded to the residence of Mr CF Gardiner, Labouchere street, where a reception was held. Mr and Mrs Williams left this morning on a tour through the Sound cities, from whence they will proceed to Kaslo, where they will reside in future.
